Elon Musk said on Thursday he was “highly confident” his new SpaceX Starship, designed for voyages to the moon and Mars, will reach Earth orbit for the first time this year, despite a host of technical and regulatory hurdles yet to be overcome. The billionaire SpaceX founder and CEO addressed a throng of news media and supporters at his company’s “Starbase” facility in Boca Chica, Texas, for a presentation that combined a high-tech pep rally with big-screen videos and a question-and-answer session.
It came nine months after the private California-based space venture achieved the first successful launch and touchdown of a Starship   prototype rocket in a test-flight after four previous landing attempts ended in explosion. SpaceX is developing Starship to take people  and cargo to the moon, Mars and other deep-space destinations. The system consists of two elements: a huge first-stage booster known as Super Heavy and upper-stage spacecraft called Starship.
The wait for the Starship rocket’s first-ever orbital flight got on extension as the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has postponed the release of the Draft  Programmatic Environmental Assessment (PEA) by a month. The Aviation agency is conducting an environmental assessment at the SpaceX Boca Chica Launch Site in Texas which raises concerns regarding public safety, national security, insurance requirements for the launch operator and environmental impact.
SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk said that he is confident about the launch of Starship in a few months, however, a license from FFA following its approval has stalled the mission.
